Cyclones Pick Up Six Victories To Begin Spring Season

Lawrence, Kansas – The Iowa State tennis team began its 2026 spring campaign in Lawrence, Kansas Thursday in the Jayhawk Invitational, where it picked up four singles and two doubles victories in an unofficial match against Kansas State.
In doubles, the Cyclone pairs of Julia Camblor/Gabriella Kellner ad Suzanie Pretorius/Valeska San Martin Ramirez each came out on top in their respective matches. Pretorius and San Martin defeated Diana Smolinska and Addison Renfro, 6-2, while Camblor and Kellner came back from down 5-1 to take down Chanel Rustemova and Margaret Jaraczewski, 7-6 (4). Mari Paz Alberto Vilar and Stanislava Shulzhenko fell, 6-2, in their doubles match.
Pretorius, Gabriela Felix, Kira Smith and new addition Alicia Dale each earned singles wins on day one of the tournament. Pretorius defeated Diana Smolinska, 6-0, 6-3 to go 2-0 on the day. Felix made quick work of Addison Renfro, 6-0, 6-0, and Smith did similarly against Mallory Renfro, beating her 6-1, 6-0. Dale picked up her first collegiate victory by knocking off Jaraczewski in three sets, 6-3, 6-7, 6-2. Camblor, Kellner and Valentina Vargas each came up short in their singles matches.
The Cyclones will be back in action Friday at 10 a.m. with an unofficial against Kansas.
