Cyclones Close Out Big 12 Match Play

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – The Iowa State men's golf team closed Big 12 Match Play with a 3–2 loss to Houston. Dianchao Wu and Owen Sawyer each won their matches by a single hole, but the Cougars earned the other three points. Iowa State finished the week with a 4–1 loss to Arizona State, a 2.5–2.5 tie with BYU and a 3–2 win over Utah.
Dianchao Wu defeated Houston's Grant Doggett 1 up. Wu opened the week with a 2&1 loss to Arizona State's Connor Williams, split his BYU match with Drake Harvey, and fell 4&2 to Utah's Jan Farre before closing with the win. He finished the week 1-2-1.
Owen Sawyer defeated Houston's Sacha Ruiz 1 up. The win was Sawyer's second of the week after a 7&5 victory over Utah's Rex Wilson, and he finished the week 2-2.
Jackson McCommon fell 1 down to Houston's Hsuan-Yi Chen. McCommon won his first three matches of the week, over Arizona State's Nguyen Anh Minh, BYU's Parker Bunn and Utah's Will Pizza, and finished the week 3-1.
Ben Wheeler fell 2&1 to Houston's Sebastian Gamboa. Wheeler's lone win of the week came against BYU's Cooper Jones.
Drew Hensen fell 5&4 to Houston's Chi Chun. Hensen's win of the week was a 5&4 victory over Utah's Gabriel Palacios.
The Cyclones are back next in the Steelwood Collegiate Invitational on Oct. 31-Nov. 1 in Laxley, Ala.
