LUBBOCK, Texas – Iowa State (21-13, 3-6) wrapped its weekend series with No. 2 Texas Tech on Sunday afternoon, falling to the Red Raiders by a score of 17-6 in five innings.
A disastrous second inning defensively by the Cyclones fueled the 11-run TTU win. ISU had four errors in the game and three in the second inning, leading to just six of the 17 runs being earned.
Iowa State's bats had their best outing of the weekend, as ISU plated six runs on five hits – three of which were homers. Kadence Shepherd had a team-high four RBI, mashing her third homer of the weekend and first career grand slam. Reagan Bartholomew had the other two RBI, pounding a pair of solo homers.
Lauren Schurman (11-4) started the game for ISU, while Jaiden Ralston, Ava Mullen and Haily Holtz also saw the circle.
Tech plated 17 runs on 14 hits, using five homers to power the offense. Mihyia Davis had three hits and a pair of homers, while Jackie Lis also had a trio of knocks. In the circle, Samantha Lincoln (7-0) earned the win.
How it Happened
For the first time this weekend, Iowa State jumped out to a lead, as Reagan Bartholomew popped a solo home run over the left field fence to put the Cyclones on top early, 1-0.
Tech responded in the bottom of the frame, as Kaitlyn Terry matched Bartholomew's solo shot with one of her own.
In the second, with the score tied at one apiece, Tech took advantage of three ISU errors in the inning to plate 12 total runs – 11 of which were unearned – to take a 13-1 lead.
The Cyclones strung some baserunners together in the third to fuel a productive inning. An HBP, a double, and a walk loaded the bases for Kadence Shepherd. With two outs and two strikes, Shepherd cranked a homer to clear the bases and make it 13-5.
Tech answered with four more runs in the fourth inning, extending its lead to 17-5.
ISU's last gasp of offense came in the fifth inning, as Bartholomew belted another solo blast to make it 17-6.
