AMES, Iowa - Iowa State Men's Golfers Paul Beauvy, Zach May, Owen Sawyer and Dianchao Wu have been named to the College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District Team. This is the third-straight year Beauvy and May have been named to the Academic All-District Team, the second-consecutive year for Wu and Sawyer is named for the first time in his career.
Recognized as one of the top awards for student-athletes, the CSC Academic All-District Teams are awarded for combined performances in competition and in the classroom. Nominees must have at least a 3.5 cumulative GPA, be at least a sophomore academically or athletically and have participated in at least 70 percent of the team competitions throughout the year. First, second, and third-team Academic All-America honorees will be announced July 8.
Beauvy led ISU in scoring average this season at 71.37, the ninth-best single season stroke average in Iowa State history. The Saint-Alban, France native finished in the Top-10 five times this season, including the second tournament win of his career at the Gopher Invitational (-8) to start the year. Beauvy then qualified for his second NCAA Regional, tying for 51st at the NCAA Columbus Regional. Beauvy set a school record for stroke average over a career at 71.62 and carded a career-best 11 rounds in the 60's this season.
May qualified for his first NCAA Regional this season, tying for 57th at the NCAA Columbus Regional. May was third in scoring this year for ISU at 72.09, a career-best mark. The Christchurch, New Zealand native placed in the Top-3 three times this season, and recorded career-bests in lowest round (65) and rounds in the 60's (8). May ends his career in 11th (73.46) on the career stroke average list and set a school record for a 72-hole score in a conference tournament (282, +2).
Owen Sawyer finished second in stroke average this year for Iowa State at 71.93, a career-low and 15th-best in ISU history. Sawyer placed in the Top-10 four times this season, including a career-best finish at the N.I.T. (3rd) when he shot a career-low 54-hole score of 205 and tied a career-low round of 66 in the final round. The rising senior from Cedar Falls is currently sixth on the all-time stroke average list at 72.45 and carded a career-high nine rounds in the 60's this year after a combined six rounds in his first two seasons.
Wu had himself a career-year, finishing with a career-low 73.50 season average. The rising senior from Shantou, China tied a career-best 54-hole score (215) and finish (T-24th) at the Tiger Collegiate Invitational, and tied the fourth-lowest 72-hole score in a conference tournament (287, +7) in program history to tie for 32nd at the Big 12 Championship.
