Clyde Williams left a lasting mark on Iowa State and the game of football. The innovative coach became the first to implement the overhand pass and the running punt. Williams tallied a 33-14-2 mark as head coach before he became Iowa State's athletic director in 1913. He started ISU's basketball program in 1907 and coached the Cyclones until 1911. State Field was renamed in his honor at the homecoming game against Kansas in 1938.
