Obinna Eregbu made his mark as one of the greatest track and field athletes in Iowa State history in the early 1990s. The Owerri, Nigeria native earned All-America status eight times and captured nine Big Eight titles in sprint and long jump competitions. Both marks rank second all-time in ISU track & field history.
Highlights:
- Seven-time All-American (1990, 1991, 1992)
-Nine-time Big Eight champion (long jump-4, 100-meter-2, 55-meter-2, 4X100-1)
-Runner-up national champion in the 55-meter dash at the 1992 NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships
-Placed third in the long jump at the 1992 NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships with a personal-best 26-10 leap
-Still holds ISU's indoor long jump record at 26-2
-ISU won four Big Eight team titles and was runner-up twice in his three seasons with the Cyclones
-1992 Iowa State Male Athlete of the Year
-Competed in the long jump for Nigeria at the 1993 World Track and Field Championships
