Ben Moortgat spent the 2025 season as assistant strength and conditioning coach for the Cyclone football program.
The 2025 Cyclone team went 8-4 and earned bowl eligibility in Moortgat's first season with the program. Iowa State placed 14 players on All-Big 12 teams, including six on the top-three teams.
The Brussels, Belgium, native has familiarity with ISU director of football strength and conditioning Reid Kagy as he was an intern for Oregon during the 2019-20 season, while Kagy was on the Ducks’ staff as an assistant.
Moortgat joins Iowa State after spending two seasons at the University of Houston where he led programs for tight ends, running backs, quarterbacks and specialists as the team transitioned into the Big 12 Conference.
In total, he worked under Houston head coach Willie Fritz for five seasons, including at Tulane from 2021-23.
Moortgat has also had stints at Northwest Mississippi Community College, Central Arkansas and Georgia.
He earned his bachelor’s degree from Haute Ecole Francisco Ferrer in 2015 and his master’s degree in exercise science from Central Arkansas in 2018.
