Greg Pyszczynski (pronounced puh-ZIN-skee) is in his seventh season as an assistant strength and conditioning coach at Iowa State.
Pyszczynski has witnessed incredible improvement during his time in Ames. The Cyclones have qualified for five-straight bowl games, annually appeared in the national rankings and totaled five of ISU’s six above-.500 conference seasons in the history of the Big 12 Conference (1996-present) since 2017.
The 2020 season was historic in many ways. Iowa State finished the regular season in first place in the Big 12 standings, made the Big 12 Championship game and qualified for a New Year’s Six bowl for the first time in school history.
The Cyclones capped off the season with a 34-17 win over Oregon in the PlayStation Fiesta Bowl.
ISU’s eight conference wins and nine overall wins eclipsed or tied school records, and the Cyclones earned their highest ranking in school history during the season (#6) and postseason (#9).
A native of West Seneca, N.Y., Pyszczynski was the head strength and conditioning coach at Buffalo for two seasons (2014-15), helping develop a slew of athletes under head coach Lance Leipold.
In his stint at Buffalo, Pyszczynski helped mentor and train two of the most prolific offensive players in school history in quarterback Joe Licata and running back Anthone Taylor. Licata threw for 2,969 yards in 2015, the second-best single season total in UB history. Taylor rushed for 1,403 yards in 2014, ranking second in school history.
In 2013, Pyszczynski was an assistant strength and conditioning coach at Illinois after serving on the strength and conditioning staff at Eastern Michigan from (2019-12). After beginning his tenure as an unpaid intern at EMU, Pyszczynski was elevated to associate head strength and conditioning coach for his final season in 2012.
Pyszczynski was also a graduate assistant at Utica (N.Y.) College in 2008-09, assisting with its strength and conditioning programs for football, men’s lacrosse, women’s ice hockey and field hockey.
Pyszczynski is a 2007 graduate of St. John Fisher (N.Y.) College where he was an all-conference defensive lineman.
His wife, Cassandra, is the Director of Strength and Conditioning for Women’s Basketball at Iowa State.
