Justus Jones spent three seasons (2022-24) on the Cyclone football staff, serving as director for student-athlete development.
Jones assisted in development of the student-athletes in areas of character and personal development and preparing them for life after Iowa State. He played a vital role in the development of Iowa State's S.T.O.R.M. program, which focused on Engaging, Transforming and Empowering football student-athletes to realize their maximum potential as men and college athletes.
During Jones' tenure, wide receivers Xavier Hutchinson and Jayden Higgins, along with defensive back T.J. Tampa earned All-America honors. Three Cyclones were drafted into the National Football League: Will McDonald IV (First Round - New York Jets - 2023), Hutchinson (Sixth Round - Houston Texans, 2023) and Anthony Johnson Jr. (Seventh Round - Green Bay Packers - 2023).
The Cyclones reached bowl games in 2023 and 2024, winning the Pop-Tarts Bowl in his final season with the program. The 2024 Cyclones won a school-record 11 games, finishing 11-3 overall and advancing to the program's second-ever Big 12 Championship game.
Jones came to Iowa State after spending three seasons working for the NFL’s Tampa Bay Buccaneers, where he was a member of the Super Bowl LV winning organization as player engagement coordinator.
While with the Bucs, Jones had many administrative duties including leading in-season and off-season Rookie Academy development meetings, assisting with weekly full team culture reports and running weekly practice squad developmental meetings.
Prior to joining the Buccaneers organization, Jones was a football recruiting intern at Wake Forest where he helped evaluate and broke down all film of prospective student-athletes, aided in day-to-day operations of the recruiting office including the input of all academic transcripts for prospective student-athletes.
Jones played at Bowling Green from 2007-11, earning a bachelor’s degree in history in 2011. He earned his master’s degree in sports administration from Liberty in 2018.
Jones is married to Brianna and has two children, Liam and Zola.
