Tom Farniok, a former Iowa State center from 2010-14 who started 47 games and was a two-time All-Big 12 selection, is in his first season as deputy director of football strength and conditioning.
Farniok returns to his alma mater after his most recent stints at Florida State (2020-25) and Stanford (2019).
At FSU, the 2023 Seminole squad went 13-1 and won the ACC Championship game, while the 2022 team went 10-3 and won the Cheez-It Bowl.
Prior to Stanford, Farniok worked as a sports performance coach at Houston, Buffalo and Louisiana Tech, where he worked directly with the football programs at each school.
A native of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, Farniok spent one season as the offensive line coach at his alma mater, Sioux Falls Washington High School.
As a player, Farniok helped the Cyclones reach the 2011 Pinstripe Bowl and the 2012 Liberty Bowl. He earned All-Big 12 recognition in 2013 and 2014 and was voted a team captain in his final season. He was selected to participate in the NFLPA Collegiate Bowl and signed as an undrafted free agent with the Minnesota Vikings.
He is a certified strength and conditioning specialist (CSCS) through the National Strength and Conditioning Association and is CPR/AED/First Aid certified through the American Red Cross.
Farniok graduated from Iowa State in 2014 with a bachelor’s degree in kinesiology. He earned his master’s degree in athletic coaching from Florida State in 2024.
