Stevie Taylor is in his second season on the Cyclone men's basketball staff, serving as an assistant coach after being the assistant director of player development in his first year.
In 2023-24 the Cyclones won the Big 12 Championship and advanced to the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Tournament. The Cyclones finished with a 29-8 overall record and 13-5 league record, the second-most wins in program history. The 37 games played are tied for the most in program history. The Cyclones went a perfect 18-0 at Hilton Coliseum, the fifth undefeated year in the building's history. Iowa State had seven Top 25 victories on the year, including two wins over Houston when it was ranked No. 1 and No. 2 and a victory over No. 7 Kansas.
Taylor joined the Iowa State staff after spending the 2022-23 season at Toledo as the director of operations. He helped the Rockets become the first MAC school to win three-consecutive outright league titles. Toledo tied its school record with 27 victories, while going 16-2 in league play.
Prior to his year at Toledo, Taylor spent the 2021-22 season as an assistant coach at Nicholls, where the Colonels went 21-9 and won the Southland Conference title. Taylor spent two years at Langston (Okla.) as an assistant coach from 2019-21 and was a graduate assistant at Boston College from 2017-19.
A graduate of Ohio, Taylor played in 137 career games for the Bobcats with 34 starts. Ohio played in three postseason tournaments with Taylor on the team, including a trip to the NCAA Tournament Sweet 16 as a freshman.
Taylor earned his bachelor’s degree in University Studies from Ohio in May 2015 and his master’s degree in Sports Administration from Boston College in May 2019.
