Upcoming Event: Women's Basketball versus UW-Oshkosh (Ex.) on October 28, 2025 at 6:30 PM

Jodi Steyer is in her 24th season on the Cyclone coaching staff, after rejoining Bill Fennelly's staff in May 2002. She spent six seasons as his assistant at Toledo. She was promoted to Associate Head Coach in June 2012.
Steyer has been an integral part of the Cyclones reaching the postseason 19 times over more than two decades in Ames. That time includes a trio of runs to the second weekend of the NCAA Women’s Basketball Championship, making the Elite Eight in 2009 and the Sweet 16 in 2010 and 2022.
Steyer specializes in player development and works with both the frontcourt and backcourt while currently working extensively with triple threat Addy Brown. Under her stewardship, Brown exploded onto the college basketball scene as a true freshman, finishing with double-doubles in seven of her first 10 collegiate contests. Brown finished her rookie year as All-Big 12 honorable mention and the only player in program history to record over 400 points, 250 rebounds and 150 assists in a single season. She followed up with over 500 points, 250 rebounds and 190 assists as a sophomore to earn All-Big 12 Second Team honors. She also works alongside Coach Schaben with the development of two-time All-American Audi Crooks. Steyer played an integral role in helping the young 2023-24 Cyclones to the second round of the 2024 NCAA Tournament. She worked extensively with a freshman quintet that contributed the highest percentage of team points, rebounds and minutes throughout the entire season of any Power 5 women’s basketball program.
Emily Ryan finished her career as one of the most prominent Iowa State backcourt success stories, with Steyer playing a crucial role in helping the 2023 Big 12 iron woman, to heights not seen in program history. Ryan dished out a program-record 249 assists in 2021-22 and followed up with 6.4 assists per game in 2022-23, good for ninth among NCAA Division I players. She broke the Iowa State career assists record with her 746th career dime on March 9, 2024, in the quarterfinal round of the Big 12 tournament as the Cyclones defeated No. 17 Baylor, 67-62. Ryan holds the all-time Iowa State and Big 12 record and ranks seventh in NCAA Division I with 993 assists over 153 career games.
Her work with ISU’s All-Big 12 stars Ryan and Ashley Joens helped guide Iowa State to a program-record 28 wins in the 2021-22 season. Joens was a multiple time All-American and a three-time winner of the Cheryl Miller Award given to the nation’s top small forward. A four-time unanimous All-Big 12 First Team selection, Joens finished her career as ISU’s all-time leading scorer and ninth all-time in NCAA Division I history with 3,060 points. She was drafted 19th overall by the Dallas Wings in the 2023 WNBA Draft.
Bridget Carleton became Iowa State's first Big 12 Player of the Year winner under Steyer’s tutelage and the first Cyclone to be honored to the WBCA's Naismith Starting Five, by winning the Cheryl Miller Award. Carleton was a second-team All-American by virtually every media outlet as well and was drafted 21st overall by the Connecticut Sun. She recently completed her sixth season in the WNBA with the Minnesota Lynx, reaching the 2024 WNBA Finals.
Steyer also helped guide Alison Lacey to All-America honors in 2010. Under Steyer's tutelage, Lacey was the 10th overall pick in the WNBA draft, chosen by the Seattle Storm, and was a unanimous All-Big 12 selection. Demonstrating her versatility, Lacey was just the second player in school history to record a triple-double and the only player in ISU history to record 1,500 points, 500 rebounds and 500 assists in a career.
Steyer also came on board for Lindsey Wilson's final season at ISU as she made her way into second place on the school's career scoring chart with 1,875 points. She also helped guide Lyndsey Medders to a then-school-record 719 career assists and 1,449 career points.
Iowa State is one of the nation's most prolific three-point shooting teams under Steyer's guidance, leading the Big 12 in 3-pointers in all but two seasons since the inception of the conference. The Cyclones also own nearly every three-point mark in the Big 12 record book.
A native of Burlington, Wis., Steyer was a four-year letterwinner and starter at Colorado State. She finished her career as the Rams' all-time leading scorer (1,598). She earned first-team all-High Country Conference honors three times and academic all-league honors all four years. The former forward earned her bachelor's degree in business administration and marketing from CSU in 1989.
Steyer joined Fennelly at Toledo in 1989, working primarily with the Rocket post players. She coached five all-conference players and two Mid-American Conference players of the year, including current Iowa State assistant Latoja Schaben (1993). Fennelly and Steyer guided Toledo to a 141-45 record in six seasons, including five postseason appearances. Steyer spent an additional year at Toledo after Fennelly left for Iowa State, helping the Rockets to a 25-6 record and an NCAA Championship berth in 1996.
Steyer and her husband, Ed, have two children, with their daughter Jamie serving as ISU women’s basketball’s radio analyst and son Eric, who played for the men’s basketball team.
