Cancelled Event: Soccer versus #15 Memphis

Des Moines native Jason Wichman is in his eighth season as an assistant coach at Iowa State, and his work as goalkeepers coach has paid dividends for the program. Wichman has helped to develop some of the finest goalkeepers in school history during his tenure at Iowa State. His coaching of Lindsey Hendon was instrumental in the 2016 campaign, in which the Cyclones finished No. 48 in the RPI, tallied a 10-8-1 record and notched a pair of top-25 road wins. Under Wichman's tutelage, Hendon set a school-record with 10 shutouts and had a 0.89 goals-against average during her impeccable junior season.
Recently, Cyclone fans have taken note of Wichman's work with Cyclone goalkeeper Dayja Schwichtenberg. The native of Medina, Minn., who flashes of promise while taking hold of the starting position during her sophomore season. Under Wichman's mentoring, Schwichtenberg improved rapidly as the season went on, logging four shutouts, including wins in the final two games of the season at Oklahoma State and vs. Kansas State to help Iowa State punch its ticket to the 2018 Big 12 Championship.
In his first season at Iowa State, Wichman helped guide the Cyclones to their first 10-win campaign since 2005. The Cyclones also tacked on seven shutouts tying for the fourth-best mark in ISU history. Wichman came to Iowa State after one year at Texas State and three years at Drake.
Under Wichman’s leadership, the Cyclones advanced to the 2013 Big 12 soccer tournament for the first time since 2007. Wichman helped guide the Cyclones to one of the best defensive seasons in school history recording seven total shutouts and finishing fourth in the Big 12 with 93 saves. Since Wichman has taken over as an assistant coach, the Cyclones have recorded 14 total shutouts.
Wichman coached Cyclone standout goalkeeper, Maddie Jobe, for three seasons. Under Wichman’s coaching, Jobe finished her career as one of the top goalkeepers in Iowa State history, ranking first in career goalkeeper wins (29) and shutouts (21), and second in career saves (319).
Prior to ISU, Wichman helped guide Texas State to the 2011 Southland Conference tournament title, a program-record-tying 14 wins and a berth in the NCAA Championship tournament. The 2011 Bobcats had a streak of 14 matches without allowing multiple goals and posted nine shutouts. Texas State shutout Stephen F. Austin in the Southland Conference tournament final despite the Lumberjacks entering the match as the nation's top-ranked offense. Texas State's goalkeeper Lauren Frazier was named the Southland Conference tournament MVP.
Prior to Texas State, Wichman saw Drake have its first 10-win season in four years in 2010 and a program-record-tying nine shutouts. Wichman coached Drake goalkeeper Kalena Litch to a program-record nine shutouts during the 2010 campaign.
Wichman has extensive experience training goalkeepers, a role he served at his stops at Texas State, Drake, Simpson College (2006-07), Waukee High School (2007-08) and Iowa City West High School (2006).
Wichman graduated from Simpson College in 2004 and has also earned his NSCAA National Goalkeeping Diploma and NSCAA National Diploma.
