Rodrigo Puebla is in his third season as an assistant coach at Iowa State. Puebla joined the Cyclones in 2010 following a three-year stint as head women's coach at North Florida, where he was named Atlantic Sun Coach of the Year in 2010.
In his first year with the Cyclones, Puebla helped guide the team to its first conference road win since 1997. The Cyclones had several players post impressive seasons, including Marie-Christine Chartier, who finished 21-11 overall under the tutelage of Puebla and Iowa State head coach Armando Espinosa in 2011-12. Simona Cacciuttolo wrapped up the same season having won her final four Big 12 contests.
The Cyclones also beat Kansas for the first time in 30 years, handing the Jayhawks a 6-1 defeat in 2011-12. The margin of victory was the Cyclones' largest in a conference match since the seven-point scoring system was adopted in 2001.
Puebla brought an impressive resume to Iowa State. In addition to earning A-Sun Coach of the Year honors, Puebla earned Mid-South Conference and NAIA Region XII Coach of the Year recognition in 2003 while leading the program at Pikeville (Ky.) College.
At North Florida, Puebla spent three years serving as the head women's coach after two seasons as an assistant to both the men's and women's programs.
Puebla led the Ospreys to a top-60 ranking in 2010, advancing as a team to the NCAA Championships after going 20-2 overall and 9-1 in Atlantic Sun play. Puebla coached Aline Berkenbrock, who was named 2010 Atlantic Sun Conference Player of the Year. Three other players also captured all-conference honors for the Ospreys last spring.
Prior to his stint at North Florida, Puebla was an assistant at UTEP during the 2005-06 season.
Puebla, a native of Santiago, Chile, attended Wallace State Community College in Hanceville, Ala., before attending and playing at Pikeville his final two years. Puebla earned his bachelor's degree in business management in 2002 and his master's degree in health in 2005.
