AMES, Iowa - Iowa State swimming and diving will swim their first meet of the season on Saturday morning at home where they will take on Nebraska (2-0, 0-0 Big Ten). The dual follows ISU's Alumni Meet Friday evening in Beyer Pool.Â
THE OPPONENT – Nebraska
Friday's matchup between the Cyclones and Huskers will be their 54th meeting since their first competition in 1972.
Nebraska has an overall season record of 2-0 going into the competition, with wins against South Dakota and Omaha.
LAST TIME OUT – Cardinal & Gold
The Cyclones faced off against each other in two teams, Cardinal and Gold, where Cardinal claimed the win with a final score of 86-68 winning nine of 17 events.
Senior and Cardinal team captain Corinne Guist led her team with two event wins in the 100 and 200 freestyle, while freshman Kendall Mallers had a standout performance for team Gold, winning the 50, 100 and 200Â fly. In diving, Ally Blumenfeld won the 1-meter diving for Team Cardinal, while Kate Mitchell earned the win in the 3-meter diving for Team Gold.
WHAT TO WATCH FOR – Butterfly and Diving
Last week, Kendall Mallers won each of her three events (50, 100, and 200 fly), contributing greatly for Team Gold. Cyclones head coach, Matt Leach, was proud of the freshman performance and is very optimistic about the overall team performance as the season progresses.
Divers Blumenfeld and Mitchell will look to continue their strong starts with top finishes in both 1-meter and 3-meter diving.
ON DECK - Illinois
The Cyclones will take on Illinois at Beyer Pool on October 17-18 for the first meeting between the two programs in eight years.
