GREENSBORO, N.C. - The Cyclones completed their first full day of competition at the 2026 Big 12 Swimming and Diving Championships, highlighted by two finals appearances and another entry into the Iowa State record book.
A full day of competition is complete, and I'm really excited about how we performed and the direction we're heading," said head coach Matt Leach. "We're focused on how we're improving, where we're getting better, and where we can continue to take the next step tomorrow. We're ahead of some teams after tonight's session, and I'm very pleased with where we stand as we move into tomorrow morning. We are going to keep moving along and keep getting better every day, both in the pool and on the boards."
Time Trials
In time trial action, Keirlyn Mullica posted a 24.06 in the 50 free, while Megan Marquardt clocked a 52.03 in the 100 free.
500 Free
Iowa State was represented by three swimmers in the 500 freestyle. Carlotta led the way, winning her heat in prelims with a time of 4:54.65 to qualify for the C final. In finals, Carlotta improved her time to 4:53.18 to finish 20th overall. Her performance now ranks ninth on Iowa State's all-time top performers list.
Corinne Guist placed 28th in prelims with a time of 4:58.25, while Kendall Mallers touched in 4:59.49 to finish 35th.
200 IM
Emma Kuhn turned in one of the top performances of the day in the 200 IM, posting a 2:00.33 in prelims to qualify for the B final with a 10th-place finish. Her time ranks fourth on Iowa State's all-time top performers list and fifth on the program's all-time top times list.
Kuhn capped off her night in the 200 IM B final with a 2:00.43, turning in a strong swim that contributed key team points for the Cyclones.
Abbi Crum finished 30th overall with a time of 2:03.89. Piper Hagen placed 37th in 2:05.36, and Matilde Geromin added a 2:12.45.
50 Free
The Cyclones were represented by four swimmers in the 50 free. Grace Swoboda led the group with a 23.17, placing 25th overall.
Evelyn Mulvihill touched in 23.64 , Lili Neisser finished in 23.69, and Liv Moore clocked a 24.30.
1-Meter Diving
The Cyclones had a strong showing in the 1-meter prelims, with three divers advancing to the B final.
Kate Mitchell led the way with a prelim score of 252.70 to place 10th, while Jade Hazes followed closely behind in 12th with a 247.75. Maggie Bendell also secured a finals berth, finishing 16th with a score of 242.40.
In the B final, Mitchell improved her score to 264.15 to lead the Cyclones. Bendell posted a 246.85, and Hazes added a 229.60 to round out Iowa State's finalists. Iona Moffat was also a major contributor for the Cyclones, qualifying for the C final with a score of 236.60.

Iowa State will be back in the pool tomorrow as competition continues with day three of the Big 12 Swimming and Diving Championships.
