Ryan Workman joined the Iowa State Athletics Communications staff in June 2021 as a communications specialist and was promoted to Associate Director in March 2022. Workman is the primary contact for men’s basketball, women’s golf and men’s golf. A Boone, Iowa native, Workman has worked with eight Cyclone teams, including football, wrestling, gymnastics, soccer and softball in addition to his current duties.

In Workman's time at Iowa State, he has covered four-straight NCAA Tournament appearances for the men's basketball team, including a pair of trips to the Sweet 16 and the 2024 Big 12 Tournament Championship. A pair of former Cyclones that Workman covered have appeared in NBA games, while Joshua Jefferenson was a 2026 NBA Draft Pick. The Cyclone women's golf team has appeared in five-straight NCAA Regionals, with the Cyclonitas advancing to the NCAA Championships in both 2025 and 2026, while sending a pair of student-athletes to the NCAA Championship in 2022. On the men's side, ISU has sent an individual to the NCAA Regional five times. Serving as the wrestling contact in 2021-22, the Cyclones crowned three All-Americans at the NCAA Championships.

Prior to coming to Iowa State, Workman served three years in the athletic communications office at North Dakota State. Workman was the primary contact for the Bison soccer, women's basketball, baseball and golf programs, while also serving as a secondary contact for the football and men’s basketball teams.

During his time at NDSU, Workman covered the 2021 Summit League Baseball Champion Bison team, en route to an NCAA Regional appearance for the second time in school history. The Bison sported three players that are currently in the minor leagues, including 13th round draft pick Cade Feeney of the Boston Red Sox, 17th round draft pick Joey Danielson of the Texas Rangers and 18^th round draft pick Bennett Hostetler of the Miami Marlins. Workman was also part of a staff that covered a pair of FCS National Championships in 2019 and 2020 and a trip to the 2019 NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament, where the Bison won the opening game.

Prior to joining NDSU, Workman spent 13 years as the Sports Information Director at Coe College. Workman served as the primary contact for all 21 sports at Coe. During his time, Workman created CoeAthletics.com and led the redesign of the website three different times. Workman also was the creator of all social media accounts at Coe. Since his time at Coe, 15 of the student-athletes that he covered have been inducted into the Coe College Athletics Hall of Fame.

In Workman's 13 years in the role, the Kohawks won 26 Iowa Conference Championships, 24 Iowa Conference Tournament Championships and had 34 different teams appear in the NCAA Tournament. One of the highlights of his career was covering the 2009 softball team that finished as the National Runner-Up and is the only team to have ever played for a national title in school history.

Workman has covered 108 All-Americans and 27 CSC Academic All-Americans during his 20 years in the profession, including six National Champions. Workman served as the lead publicist for 2009 Liberty Mutual National Coach of the Year Steve Staker, 2016 Gagliardi Trophy Runner-Up Trevor Heitland and 2026 CSC Men's Basketball Academic All-American of the Year Tamin Lipsey.

An active member of the College Sports Communicators, Workman has served on multiple committees during his time. He has served on the CSC Academic All-America Hall of Fame Committee since 2017, where he currently is the Chair of the committee after serving four years as Vice Chair. He has also served on the CSC Academic All-America Core Committee since 2024. He was a member of the CoSIDA Social Committee from 2006 to 2013 and the Publications and Digital Design Awards Committee from 2019 to 2024. Workman also served as a voting member of the D3football.com Top 25 Poll from 2009-2018.

Workman's Iowa State Men's Basketball Game notes have been voted in the Top 5 in the country for men's basketball and Top 20 overall across all sports in the country by the College Sports Communicators on three different occasions. Workman has also assisted on 14 graphics that have earned Top 15 honors across the country, while also assisting on two videos that earned Top 15 honors in 2024-25.

A 2006 graduate of Waldorf College, Workman holds a bachelor's degree in Communications.
