AMES, Iowa--Scott Frost passed for two touchdowns and rushed for another as fifth-ranked Nebraska destroyed Iowa State, 49-14, for its eighth straight victory.
The Cornhuskers (9-1, 7-0 Big 12 North) have not lost since falling to Arizona State. Frost hooked up with Vershan Jackson for scoring strikes of five and 35 yards in the first quarter and ran in from the 1 in the second. Frost completed 8-of-17 passes for 103 yards.
"I was glad to come out of here with a win," said Nebraska coach Tom Osbourne. "I thought the defense played hard, especially on the wet grass. Running inside the hash marks wasn't too bad, but it was hard to get outside on the option."
Ahman Green rushed for a career-high 214 yards on 29 carries for Nebraska. Green scored on a four-yard third-quarter touchdown for the Cornhuskers, who have scored 63 touchdowns this season.
"Today, I earned my scholarship," said Green. "That is more times than I have carried the ball since high school. I had to work hard to earn every one."
Nebraska has outscored opponents by a combined 413-71 during its winning streak. The victory marks the Huskers 28th consecutive nine-win season, a feat unmatched by any school in the NCAA. They also have a 30-game conference winning streak since losing to Iowa State in the 1992 season.
Running back Troy Davis rushed for 138 yards on 34 carries for Iowa State, which has lost six straight games. Davis now has 3,970 yards over the last two seasons to break Marcus Allen's mark for the best back-to-back seasons in Division 1-A history. He needs 49 yards in his final game to become the first player to rush for 2,000 yards in consecutive seasons.
"We just wanted to limit Davis, we didn't want him to gash us," said Huskers' linebacker Jon Hesse. "We did a pretty good job. He only got one big one. He is a great back."
Iowa State (2-8, 1-6 North) is in the middle of a brutal three-game stretch against ranked conference opponents. The Cyclones fell to Colorado, 49-42, last week. They close their season at Kansas State, currently ranked ninth.
"They (the Cornhuskers) played us like two-time defending champs today," said Iowa State head coach Dan McCarney. "I am very proud of our kids. We had a 21-14 game in the second half. We mixed it up and had a chance to move the ball, its too bad we didn't get any points on the board in the first half."
Nebraska jumped out to a 28-0 first-half lead on Frost's three TDs and Damon Benning's six-yard scoring run.
Following Green's four-yard jaunt, the Cyclones' Todd Doxzon found Ed Williams on a 22-yard TD pass to make it 35-7 with 8:21 to go in the third.
The Cornhuskers got scoring runs of two yards from Russell Froehlich and one yard from Matt Turman, before Williams reeled in a two-yard strike from Todd Bandhauer to close out the scoring.
The Cyclones are the last team to beat Nebraska in a non-bowl and conference game, pinning a 19-10 defeat on the Cornhuskers in the 1992 season. Nebraska has won the last four games by a combined 199-57 margin. The Huskers lead the all-time series, 75-14-2.
