LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) - Kantrail Horton hit one of two free throws with 31 seconds left to give Iowa State a four-point lead and then the Cyclones held on to edge Nebraska 66-65 in Big 12 conference play Wednesday.
Nebraska (7-8, 0-2 Big 12) missed several opportunities to win in the last seconds. Danny Walker made just one of three free throws with 26 seconds left.
After Nebraska forced an Iowa State turnover, Kamani Ffriend made a pair of free throws to cut the lead to 66-65 with 10 seconds left.
Michael Nurse missed two free throws on Iowa State's next possession but Nebraska's Larry Florence was off the mark with a baseline jumper with three seconds left. He got the rebound but missed the buzzer-beater.
Iowa State (14-2, 2-0) used an 11-3 run to take a 35-27 halftime lead.
Nebraska battled back, tying the game at 44 on Steffon Bradford's layup with 11:40 left.
The largest lead for either team during the remainder of the game was four points.
Marcus Fizer led Iowa State with 26 points. Jamaal Tinsley and Paul Shirley had 10.
Florence led Nebraska with 17. Bradford added 14.
