COLLEGE STATION, Texas - The Iowa State volleyball team fell in straight sets, Wednesday night to No. 23 Texas A&M 15-5, 15-1 and 15-9 in G. Rollie White Coliseum. The Cyclones were led offensively by Stacy Nicks' 10 kills and .360 hitting percentage. With the loss, ISU moves to 2-12 overall and 0-7 in Big 12 action. The Aggies improve to 9-4 on the season and 4-2 in conference play.
"I was happy with the way we stood in there tonight especially in the third game," ISU head coach Linda Grensing said. "I thought offensively we executed pretty well and that shows in our hitting percentage. As a team we accomplished some of the goals we set for ourselves, which means we are headed in the right direction. One of the real positives from tonight is the way Nicks showed up and had a strong performance, especially offensively. Overall we showed some promise tonight and made a couple small steps in the right direction, but the team still knows there is a lot of room for improvement."
Nicks led all players with her 10 kill effort and added two block assist before the night was done. As a team the Cyclones hit .205 from the floor, improving upon their season average of .108.
Leading the way defensively for ISU was sophomore outside hitter Sarah Rollman. She lead both teams with three blocks, including two solo stops. The Norfolk, Neb. native added four kills against TAMU to put her over the 100 kill plateau and make her the second Cyclone to go over 100 kills and 100 digs this season. Nanette Allen is the other Cyclone to accomplish that feat, she currently owns 106 kills and 107 digs.
The Aggies were led by Erin Gibson and Heather Marshall. Gibson notched eight kills and hit .429 from the floor, while Marshall was close behind with seven kills of her own. Marshall also tallied six digs and two block assist on the night.
The Cyclones will be back in action Sunday to face the No. 1 ranked Nebraska Cornhuskers. The match will begin at 1 p.m. in Hilton Coliseum.
