AMES, Iowa - Iowa State senior middle blocker Stacy Nicks registered a match-high 13 kills on senior night in Hilton Coliseum, but was unable to lead ISU to victory Monday night as Baylor defeated ISU 3-0. The three-game sweep by BU drops Iowa State's overall record to 2-26 and 0-19 in Big 12 action, while it improves Baylor season mark to 15-14 and completes its Big 12 season at 8-12.
Following the celebration for the two graduating seniors on the ISU volleyball squad, Nicks and Nanette Allen, the Cyclones came out fighting in the open stanza. Nicks led the ISU charge registering eight of her final 13 kills, along with recording three digs and two blocks. ISU and Baylor battled back and forth and a timeout was called with the game tied 12-12. Following the timeout ISU added one more point to take a 13-12 lead, but were unable to hold off the Bears' strong offensive attack, falling 13-15.
"I felt good prior to the match and it really helped my confidence heading into game one," ISU's Stacy Nicks said. "I just knew I was going to have a good night tonight and it was especially meaningful to perform well in my final match in Hilton. The team came really close to pulling the first game out, but we were unable to finish and that has been our biggest problem all year. But I feel really good about were this team is going in the future, especially since Linda has taken over. It is a good feeling to leave this team knowing that I have made a difference and helped them start to get this program back on track."
Along with her 13 kills and seven digs, Nicks ended the night with eight blocks and committed only two hitting errors on 24 attacks for a hitting percentage of .458. Allen also helped ISU's cause in her final home match collecting a team high nine digs. The Pasco, Wash. native also recorded five kills, which brings her season total to 188.
Sophomore outside hitter Sarah Rollman continued her string of strong performances as she tallied 11 kills and seven digs vs. the Bears. She is the only Cyclone to have surpassed the 200-mark in both kills (210) and digs (207) this season.
Iowa State will wrap up the 2000 season on Saturday as they travel to Lubbock, Texas to face Texas Tech. First serve is at 7 p.m. in the United Sprint Arena.
