AMES, Iowa - Liz Wegner's 15 kills and eight digs helped the 22nd-ranked Kansas State volleyball team to a 15-6, 15-5, 15-9 win over Iowa State Wednesday night in Hilton Coliseum. Wegner, who hit .333 from the floor on the night (15k-5e-30ta), was among four Wildcats to hit over .300, as KSU hit .298 compared to ISU's .058 clip. Freshman Cari Jensen chipped in with 13 kills to help KSU improve to 7-2 overall and 1-0 in the Big 12.
The Cyclones, who fall to 2-6 overall and 0-1 in the conference, were led by Sarah Rollman's 15 kills and eight digs. The sophomore from Norfolk, Neb., hit .292 from the floor and added two solo blocks to the Cyclone effort. ISU was dominant at the net, claiming a 12-3 advantage in blocks. Senior Stacy Nicks tallied two solo blocks and assisted in four other blocks to lead all players. Sara Stribe and Julie Mitchell each had four block assists to help the Cyclones at the net.
"We had a great blocking match and Rollman had a good night for us offensively," ISU head coach Linda Grensing said. "We set a goal in game three to push it harder and be more aggressive and I was happy how they responded in that set. We had some key blocks early that helped us settle down and compete better as a team."
ISU faces Texas Saturday in a 7 p.m. match.
