AMES, Iowa - The Iowa State volleyball team fell to Colorado in straight sets, Saturday night in Hilton Coliseum. The loss moves ISU's overall record to 2-11 and evens CU's at 6-6. Senior middle blocker Stacy Nicks, led the Cyclones offensively with six kills and a .167 hitting percentage from the floor.
Iowa State got off to a slow start in game one, falling behind 1-8, but were able to even the score at 8-8, behind three kills apiece from Nicks and Mandi Harms. Harms was also tough defensively in the opening stanza collecting six digs. She ended the night with a team leading 11 digs.
The Buffaloes answered the Cyclone surge with six kills from Kim Taskey and Sara Fredrickson. The game remained close but CU was able to put a string of points together to end the opening set, 15-11.
"I was pleased with how we were able to fight back in the opening game and even the score at, 8-8," ISU head coach Linda Grensing said. "Being able to come back from a deficit is just another step in the process and it was good to see that happen. I was disappointed with our overall performance, just because I know we are a better team than we showed tonight. We should have put up a tougher fight than we did."
Iowa State goes on the road, Wednesday to face Texas A&M in College Station, Texas. The game begins at 7 p.m. in G. Rollie White Coliseum.
