AMES, Iowa - The Iowa State volleyball team fell in three sets vs. Colorado, Saturday afternoon in Hilton Coliseum. Mandi Harms paced the Cyclones with her fourth double-double of the year. The junior finished the contest with 11 kills and a career-high 19 digs. The loss moves ISU overall record to 4-14 and to 1-12 in Big 12 action. CU's Kim Taskey collected a match high 13 kills to lead the Buffs to their 12th victory of the season. Colorado is now 12-7 overall and 7-4 in conference play.
Defensively, Iowa State held an edge, outblocking (6.0-4.0) and out digging (70-67) Colorado. Offensively, CU got the upper hand, finishing the night with 53 kills on 150 attacks for a hitting percentage of .247. ISU was held to 37 kills and a .137 hitting percentage.
In game one, the Cyclones came out ready to play, hanging with CU for the majority of the set. Harms led the Cyclone charge in game one with five kills, a service ace and two digs. Fellow teammate Julie Mitchell chipped in three kills on just six attacks. It wouldn't be enough though, as Meghan Barkman pounded six of her final eight kills to power Colorado to a 30-20 opening game victory.
The second game began in similar fashion as game one, with the Cyclones trading points with the Buffaloes. The lead changed sides several times before CU took control of the match. Taskey and Sonja Russell combined for 10 kills and just two errors to help Colorado claim a 30-22 game two win and a 2-0 match lead. ISU's Mitchell drilled five of her final 11 kills and added two blocks. The Champlin, Minn. native finished the match with a team-high four blocks.
Colorado kept its offense rolling in game three, collecting 20 kills to ISU's 11. Monique Gerlach and Taskey both tallied six kills, while Russell and Elizabeth Gower collected six digs a piece to lead CU to a 30-23 game three victory. Harms was Iowa State's top offensive threat in that final game, registering four kills on 13 attacks. The 6-1 outside hitter also dug nine balls and registered a block assist to help ISU defensively.
ISU will remain at home as they host Missouri on Wednesday. First serve will be at 7 p.m.
