AMES, Iowa - The Iowa State volleyball team fell in three sets vs. Missouri, Wednesday night in Hilton Coliseum. Mandi Harms paced the Cyclones offensively with nine kills, while Sara Stribe and Brittany Dalager were the leaders defensively with 16 digs apiece. The loss moves ISU's overall record to 4-15 and to 1-13 in Big 12 action. With the win Missouri improved to 18-6 on the year and to 8-6 in league play.
The Tigers held a 51-36 kill advantage on the night and limited the Cyclones to a .092 hitting percentage. Defensively, the Tigers held a slight advantage with 67 digs to ISU's 58, but blocks were dead even at five.
The Tigers came out on fire in game one. The Tigers, lead by eight kills from Lisa Morris, hit .432 from the floor and limited ISU to eight kills and a .050 hitting percentage. The Tigers also used solid serving registering three service aces en-route to a 30-13 win.
ISU would play the Tigers much tougher in game two. The Cyclones trailed the Tigers by only one at 17-16 at the mid point of game two. However, Missouri would go on a 13-6 run the rest of the way to claim game two, 30-22. Harms collected three more kills in that stanza and Stribe tallied six digs and nine assists to help the Cyclones cause.
Iowa State would have a lead for most of game three, but Missouri fought back and took the lead at 20-19. MU senior defensive specialist Katie Sowers then came in and served Mizzou to six-straight points and gave the Tigers a 25-20 lead. MU was able to hold off a late charge by ISU to take the game, 30-26 and the match, 3-0.
ISU will hit the road this weekend, traveling to Manhattan, Kan. to face the Wildcats on Saturday. First serve will be at 7 p.m. in the Ahearn Field House.
