LUBBOCK, Texas - The Iowa State volleyball team fell at Texas Tech, 0-3, Wednesday night in the United Spirit Arena. Brittany Dalager led ISU, collecting seven kills and 12 digs. The loss moves Iowa State to 3-7 overall and to 0-5 in Big 12 action. Texas Tech improves to 8-4 overall and evens its record at 2-2 in league play 2-0.
In the opening stanza Texas Tech jumped a quick three point lead, but ISU fought back to bring the match within one at, 4-5. TTU kept the pressure on though and slowly built an advantage and held a 17-12 lead at the midpoint of the match. Sophomore Renae Pruess would help ISU narrow Texas Tech's lead to 14-20, as she collected four kills, while committing zero errors in game one. Behind five kills from Angela Mooney, the Red Raiders eventually pulled away to close out game one, 30-21.
Texas Tech once again jumped out to an early advantage in game two. This time ISU came back to tie the match, 8-8 and didn't let the Red Raiders take more than a two-point advantage for the remainder of the game. The two conference foes traded points until ISU was able to secure its first led of the match at 19-18. The Cyclones built their advantage up to a three-point margin at24-21, forcing TTU's head coach Jeff Nelson to take a time out. Tech responded after the break and knotted the match, 25-25 and then reclaimed the lead, 26-25. The teams would continue the seesaw battle, but TTU outlasted Iowa State, 31-29 to claim a 2-0 match advantage. Mandi Harms led ISU in game two with five of her finally six kills on the night.
After the intermission Texas Tech came out hot as they once again took and early lead, but this time ISU was unable to comeback. The Red Raiders slowly increased their advantage throughout the match and at one point held a 26-16 lead. Despite three kills from ISU middle blocker, Steph Suntken, TTU was able to ride out its lead to claim game three (30-18) and the match.
Iowa State will have just one day off, as they host Baylor in a makeup match on Friday. First serve will be at 7 p.m. in Hilton Coliseum.
