AMES, Iowa - Baylor defeated the ISU volleyball team 3-0, Friday night in Hilton Coliseum. Iowa State's Mandi Harms and Brittany Dalager combined for 10 kills and 14 digs to lead ISU, but it wasn't enough as the Cyclones fall to 3-8 on the season and to 0-6 in Big 12 action. With the win the Bears improved to 9-4 overall and to 1-4 in league play.
Iowa State struggled offensively on the night, as they finished the match with a -.033 hitting percentage. The Bears notched 37 kills to ISU's 24 and outdug the Cyclones 57 to 36.
Baylor came out on fire in the opening set, jumping out a healthy led (15-3) and never looked back. BU hit just .189 in its opening set win, but were solid defensively registering 22 digs and five blocks. Steph Suntken drilled two of ISU's five kills in game one, while Harms paced ISU defensively with seven digs.
The momentum the Bears gained in game one flowed into game two, as they took a early 10-5 advantage. Suntken added two more kills and collected three blocks assists in set two, but the Cyclones would be unable to overcome five aces from the Bears. Laura Lloreda paced BU with two of her final four aces in the set, while three other Baylor players registered a single ace. Stevie Nicholas collected four of her final game-high eight kills in game two, securing a 2-0 match lead for the Bears going into the intermission.
Game three opened up to look like it would be a tighter set, as both squad traded points, but with the match tied 5-5 the Bears were able to score five straight points and led the rest of the way. ISU closed to within five points at 24-19 but could never get any closer. Harms and Dalager both registered three kills for the Cyclones in the final set, while Sara Stribe and Lindsey Chapman tallied three digs apiece.
The Cyclones have Saturday and Sunday off, before heading to Columbia, Mo. for a Monday night match vs. the Tigers. First serve will be at 7 p.m. in the Hearnes Center.
