AMES, Iowa - The Iowa State volleyball team fell in three sets vs. Kansas, Wednesday night in Hilton Coliseum. The Cyclones nearly pulled out game one but fell, 28-30 and then dropped games two and three 18-30 and 21-30, respectively. Mandi Harms lead ISU for the 13th time this year with 13 kills. Brittany Dalager was the team leader in digs with 17. The loss drops ISU to 4-17 overall and to 1-15 in Big 12 action. KU's Lindsey Morris pounded 13 kills to help the Jayhawks improve to 15-12 on the year and to 5-11 in conference play.
Kansas held a 51-36 advantage in kills on the night and outhit the Cyclones .241 to .100. Defensively, ISU outblocked KU six to five, but the Jayhawks held a slight edge in digs, 60-58.
In game one ISU battled with the Jayhawks, as the two conference foes traded points and the lead throughout the set. The Cyclones held a 28-26 advantage on the scoreboard, but following a time-out KU was able to notch two huge points, knotting the match, 28-28. The Jayhawks kept the pressure on and scored the final two points, claiming game one 30-28. Harms led ISU in the opening stanza with six kills, while hitting a solid .417 from the floor.
With the emotional opening game win the Jayhawks' offense kept rolling in game two, pounding 16 kills to the Cyclones nine, while hitting .306 from the floor. KU took a sizeable lead early and never looked back, winning game two, 30-18. Harms and Dalager combined for six kills and six digs to pace ISU.
ISU came out fighting in game three and kept the set close early. The Jayhawks slowly were able to widen its margin and eventually clinched the game and match with a 30-21 game three win. Dalager and Harms were once again ISU's leaders, recording four kills apiece. Dalager finished the night with nine kills, 17 digs, an assist, two service aces and four block assists.
Iowa State hits the road this weekend, traveling to College Station, Texas to face the Aggies on Saturday. First serve will be at 7 p.m.
