MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. -- The No. 10 Iowa State gymnasts fell to No. 14 Minnesota in Minneapolis, Feb. 24, 196.150-196.525. The Cyclones' record drops to 5-3 overall and 2-1 in the Big 12.
Shelly Kringen placed first on the vault with a 9.90. Karen Kuplicki also placed in this event in a 3-way tie for third with Minnesota's Leigh Dixon and Shanyn Lancaster, scoring a 9.800.
On the uneven bars, Sissy Huey was involved in a three-way tie for first place with Gophers Annie Laatsch and Mary Skokut. Huey's score of 9.925 ties her career high on the bars. Fellow ISU gymnast Shelly Kringen took fourth place with a 9.900.
Cyclones Chee Chee Calina and Courtney's Sarrett shared the honor of first place on the balance beam (9.875). This score marks career high for both gymnasts. Iowa State's Huey and Jessy Smith shared a four-way tie for third with Minnesota's Jenny Alf and MaryAnne Kelly. Smith's score of 9.850 marks a personal season high.
Kringen and Minnesota's Kelley place first in a two-way tie on the floor exercise scoring 9.925. Laatsch and Iowa State's Lauren Goldberg tied for fourth in the event with a 9.825.
Iowa State held several placings in the all-around competition. Huey took second (39.275), Smith placed third (39.200), and Kringen held fourth (39.125).
The Cyclones next travel to Gainesville, Fla., to compete against the Gators, March 2, at 7 p.m.
