DES MOINES, Iowa - Brittany Dalager collected 13 kills and 12 digs to lead the Iowa State volleyball team to a 3-0 sweep of the Drake Bulldogs Wednesday night at the Knapp Center. It was her 10th double-double of her career as Iowa State swept an opponent since the first match of the 2001 season. Freshman Amanda Craig collected her first career double-double with 11 kills and 14 digs. With the win, the Cyclones improve their record to 5-2. Drake was led by senior Lacey Corcoran, who had 17 kills and 18 digs.
In the first game, the Cyclones hit .200 from the field and collected 13 kills on 35 attempts to take control of the game. But Drake got some nice hitting from Corcoran to pull within two. But ISU took control and won the game 30-26. The Bulldogs notched 19 kills to ISU's 13.
Game two was a little closer as Drake led by four at one point, but the Cyclones used strong hitting to take a 30-24 win in the second game. In this game, ISU had 16 kills on 42 attempts and hit .214 from the field, compared to Drake's 10 kills on 35 attempts.
In game three, both sides traded points and sideouts before Drake took a four-point lead, but solid hitting helped the Cyclones out as they soon had the lead by two. The Cyclones had the hitting down tonight as they hit .179 in game three to eventually win the game, 30-28, and take the match in three.
"I thought, for the most part, we played well tonight," Head Coach Linda Crum said. "I was very proud that we were able to win the game in three. It gives us some good momentum going into the tournament this weekend in Kansas City." Senior Mandi Harms had a solid night in the middle blocker position, collecting 10 kills and four digs. Senior setter Sara Stribe had 39 assists, four digs and three kills. She upped her career assist total to 2,273, good for sixth on ISU's career assist chart.
