AMES, Iowa - The Iowa State volleyball team fell in three sets (3-0) to Texas Tech on Saturday afternoon in Hilton Coliseum. Offensively, the Cyclones were paced by Brittany Dalager and Renae Pruess, who tallied 10 and seven kills, respectively. With the loss, Iowa State falls to 9-4 overall and 0-2 in the Big 12. Kelly Johnson's 13-kill performance on the afternoon helped the Red Raiders improve to 6-4 overall and to 1-0 in league play.
TTU tallied 43 kills to Iowa State's 36.
Texas Tech's offense controlled the match as they finished the night hitting .238 from the floor. The Red Raiders committed just 19 errors on 101 attacks, while registering 43 kills. The Cyclones were held to a .148 clip from the floor, while collecting 36 kills.
Freshman Amanda Craig had six kills and seven digs, while senior Mandi Harms had six kills, one dig and five blocks for the Cyclones. Senior setter Sara Stribe had 29 assists.
Iowa State played game one tough, drilling 15 kills with just 2 errors and hitting .271 from the floor, but the Red Raiders claimed a 30-26 win. Game two was all Texas Tech, as the Cyclones were held to .000 hitting from the floor, while the Red Raiders hit .313 along with nine kills and won 30-14. In game three, ISU got back on track with 15 kills, but Tech had 13 kills and won, 30-28.
"We struggled today," Head Coach Linda Crum said. "We came out a little tense and we need to learn to relax and just play our game. We need to learn to play with intensity, yet relaxed out there."
Iowa State will play host to Kansas State on Wednesday, Sept. 25 at Valley High School in West Des Moines. First serve is set for 7 p.m.
