ATHENS, Ga. - The Iowa State volleyball team defeated Georgia Southern, 3-1, in their final game at the Georgia Bulldog Classic on Saturday afternoon at the Ramsey Center in Athens, Ga. The win improves Iowa State's record to 4-2 on the young season.
Sophomore Brittany Dalager led the way for the Cyclones with 16 kills and 18 digs, freshman Amanda Craig had 10 kills and 12 digs and junior Renae Pruess added 17 kills and seven digs. The Cyclones drilled 62 kills, a tournament-high for them, and hit .209 for the game. Georgia Southern was held to .193. Georgia Southern's Martina Kasprak had a match-high 21 kills as the Eagles fall to 4-4 on the season.
Iowa State had control in the first two games, winning the first, 30-27, and the second, 30-24. The Cyclones combined for 30 kills in the first two games. Georgia Southern had 20 kills and only four errors and hit .340 to win game three, 30-23. Iowa State had 14 kills and seven errors in game three. In game four, the Cyclones hit .279, their highest of the tournament and defeated the Eagles, 30-25.
Junior Lindsey Chapman had 55 assists and nine digs and senior Mandi Harms added 11 kills for ISU.
The Cyclones will travel to Des Moines to take on Drake on Wednesday, Sept. 11. Match time is set for 7 p.m.
