ATHENS, Ga. - The Iowa State volleyball team lost in four games to Georgia on Saturday afternoon at the Ramsey Center in Athens, Ga. ISU competing in the 2002 Georgia Bulldog Classic. Senior Mandi Harms led the Cyclones with 13 kills and junior Renae Pruess had seven kills and 11 digs, but couldn't help ISU pull out a victory as the team falls to 3-2 on the year. Georgia's Julia Petruschke drilled a match-high 24 kills to help the Bulldogs improve to 4-3 on the season.
Georgia controlled the match, finishing the afternoon hitting .227 from the floor. It registered 71 kills and 74 attacks. The Cyclones were held to a .074 clip from the floor, while collecting 43 kills.
Freshman Ashlie McWee finished the contest with six kills, while junior Lindsey Chapman had eight digs and 30 assists. Amanda Craig rounded out the Cyclones with 12 digs.
In game one, Iowa State could never quite get its offense going and struggled, making 11 errors to Georgia's three and the Bulldogs took game one, 30-16. The Cyclones rebounded in game two, drilling 13 kills and hit .146 to win, 31-29. In games three and four, Georgia hit .277 and .261, respectively and won both games, 30-21 and 30-22, and thus won the match, 3-1.
Iowa State will continue in the Georgia Bulldog Classic later on Saturday evening when it takes on Georgia Southern at 7 p.m. The Cyclones will travel to Des Moines to take on Drake on Wednesday, Sept. 11. Match time is set for 7 p.m.
