AMES, Iowa - Iowa State soccer student-athletes Kelly Burke and Laura Schweer were voted to the 2003 District VII Academic All-America second team, selected by CoSIDA. They are the first Iowa State soocer players ever to receive district academic All-America recognition.
Burke is a junior forward majoring in dietetics. The Plano, Texas, native took five shots and was one of six Cyclones to play in all 19 games this season. She is a two-time member of the Academic All-Big 12 first team.
Schweer, a junior, is a business major from Wheaton, Ill. She played in 18 games, making seven starts in the Iowa State midfield. She started five Big 12 contests and six of ISU's last 10 games overall. Schweer was named to the Academic All-Big 12 first team earlier this week.
Iowa State and Kansas were the only Big 12 universities with at least two District VII Academic All-Americans. A total of eight Big 12 student-athletes were voted to the squad.
