AMES, Iowa -- The Iowa State gymnastics team suffered their first loss at home this season after battling the Nebraska Cornhuskers Friday night at Hilton Coliseum (195.275-196.275).
A trio of Cyclone freshman swept the floor exercise. Claiming first place was Erin Dethloff with a score of 9.925. Coming in second was Laura-Kay Powell with a 9.90. Kacey Oiness grabbed third and set a career-high score of 9.875.
ISU freshmen also took first and second place in the all-around competition. Dethloff claimed first place (39.525) and Powell, in her first collegiate competition as an all-arounder, claimed second (38.050).
Husker Richelle Simpson won the vault competition with a 9.925. Her teammates A.J. Lamb and Tami Harris tied for second place (9.90). Powell and
Simpson also claimed first place honors on the beam with a 9.925. Dethloff and Lamb tied for second (9.90). This marked a career-high score for Dethloff.
