LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) - Nate Johnson scored 20 points and hit four game-clinching free throws in the final 18 seconds as Nebraska held on to beat Iowa State 69-63 Saturday night.
Nebraska (11-16, 3-11 Big 12) took control midway through the second half. A pair of back-to-back inside baskets put the Huskers up 46-42 with 11:56 to play.
Just more than two minutes later, Johnson's 3-pointer made Nebraska's lead nine.
Iowa State (14-11, 4-10) was able to cut the lead to five. But another Nebraska flurry which included an Andrew Drevo dunk, a breakaway layup by Jason Dourisseau and a lob by John Turek gave Nebraska a 62-50 lead with 4:09 remaining.
The Cyclones rallied down the stretch, taking advantage of Nebraska turnovers and missed free throws to cut the lead to 63-60 on Marcus Jefferson's free throws with 55 seconds left.
A driving layup by Brennon Clemmons appeared to seal the win for Nebraska. But Iowa States Tim Barnes hit a 3-pointer with 24 seconds left to cut the lead to 65-63 and forced Johnson to hit the game-winning free throws.
Nebraska won the game on the boards, outrebounding the Cyclones 49-35 and at the free throw line where the Huskers were 10-of-16 compared to 6-of-9 for Iowa State.
Turek had 17 and Drevo finished with 12 to join Johnson in double figures for Nebraska.
Barnes led Iowa State with 16 and Jake Sullivan had 13. Jackson Vroman added 12 and Adam Haluska finished with 10 points.
