Iowa State Volleyball Sweeps West Virginia

AMES, Iowa - Senior Renae Pruess had a game-high 13 kills and sophomore Ashlie McWee added nine kills to lead Iowa State to a 3-0 win over West Virginia, Friday night at the Bowling Green State Tournament in Bowling Green, Ohio. With the win, ISU improved its record to 7-2 overall. Aurora Ebert-Santos led West Virginia with 13 kills. The Cyclones are now on a two-match winning streak.

The Cyclones dominated the match offensively, hitting .288 from the floor and collecting 46 kills to West Virginia's 45. Iowa State committed just 14 hitting errors on 111 attacks. West Virginia was held to .192 from the floor. ISU also had the edge defensively, with 49 digs to West Virginia's 46.

Sophomore Katie Kruengel had eight kills and four total blocks and senior Lindsey Chapman added 38 assists, eight digs and two kills.

In the first game, ISU had 14 kills and hit .233 from the floor and won that first set, 30-28.

Iowa State came out on fire in game two, hitting a sizzling .455 from the floor, with 16 kills and only one hitting error on 33 attacks. The Mountaineers were held to .135 from the floor with 12 kills. The Cyclones never let the Mountaineers closer than 12 points and took game two, 30-18.

Iowa State hit well again in the third game, hitting at a .208 clip, while holding West Virginia to a .149 clip. The Cyclones tallied 16 kills on 48 attacks to the Mountaineers' 15 kills.

“I thought we played fairly well tonight,” Associate Head Coach Amy Farber Knowles said. “We went out and got it done. It wasn't our best match, but I was proud of the fact the girls believed in themselves and regained their focus and did what they needed to do to pull out the sweep.”

The Cyclones will finish play at Bowling Green State Tournament on Saturday afternoon when they play tournament host Bowling Green State on Saturday, with the first serve at 2 p.m.
