DALLAS, Texas - Iowa State freshman Joanna Haig was one of 11 student-athletes and the lone goalkeeper voted to the 2004 Big 12 Soccer All-Newcomer Team by the league's coaches, the conference office announced Monday.
Haig finished the regular season ranked second in the Big 12 in saves with 91 and fifth in the league with a 1.22 goals-against average, which is on pace to break the ISU single-season record. Haig, a native of Inver Grove Heights, Minn., was named Big 12 Defensive Player of the Week after collecting 13 saves in a 2-0 shutout at Missouri on Oct. 10. She made a career-high 14 saves at Texas, the fifth-best single-game total in school history. Haig has started 17 games in goal this season and has eight wins, the most by an ISU goalkeeper since 1999. ISU lands one member on the all-newcomer team for the second consecutive season.
Nebraska's Brittany Timko was named Big 12 Player of the Year, Texas A&M's Ashlee Pistorius was named Big 12 Newcomer of the Year and Kansas head coach Mark Francis was named Big 12 Coach of the Year.
Iowa State will battle Kansas in the quarterfianls of the Big 12 Tournament on Wednesday, Nov. 3, at 11 a.m. The tournament will be held at Blossom Soccer Stadium in San Antonio, Texas.
