AMES, Iowa - Iowa State had a record-setting night in a 113-45 blowout of IPFW Monday night in Hilton Coliseum. The Cyclones set the Hilton record for scoring and win margin, as well as the school record for assists. ISU is 3-0 heading into Wednesday's matchup with undefeated instate rival Iowa (4-0).
Iowa State's 113 points are the most scored at Hilton Coliseum and narrowly missed breaking the school mark of 115 scored against Central on Feb. 14, 1976. ISU's win margin (+68) was a Hilton Coliseum record and the biggest since a 110-36 (+74) win over Simpson on Dec. 10, 1975.
"They (IPFW) played really hard," ISU head coach Bill Fennelly said. "Our starters got us off to a great start and I don't think I've ever seen a game where the bench got 70 points."
The Cyclones sprinted out to an 18-0 lead before the Mastodons hit their first basket at 13:07. IPFW made just 20 percent of its first-half shots and got outrebounded 28-11. Iowa State shot at a 61.1 percent clip for a 56-14 lead at the break, paced by Anne O'Neil and Brittany Wilkins with 15 and 12 points, respectively.
O'Neil finished the game just two assists shy of a triple-double, collecting 15 points and 10 rebounds for her second career double-double. She sank 3-of-4 treys, giving her 72.7 percent accuracy (8-of-11) from behind the arc for the season.
Iowa State had 35 assists, breaking the school record (31) previously set against High Point on Dec. 13, 2002. O'Neil had eight assists, while Tegan Stuart and Lyndsey Medders each had seven.
"That's (assists) something we've really talked about," Fennelly said. "We're a better passing team than we've been."
Iowa State, which got 70 points from its bench, shot 55.8 percent for the game and hit 13 3-pointers. ISU dominated the glass 60-31, led by Lisa Kriener's 13 rebounds that matched her career high.
IPFW had two players in double figures, getting 13 points from Courtney Nicley and 11 from Ashley Johnson. The Mastodons (0-4) shot 25.7 percent for the game and just 20.6 percent from 3-point territory (7-of-34).
