AMES, Iowa (AP) - John Neal scored all of his 16 points in the first half to keep Iowa State in the game and the Cyclones used a 22-7 run in the second half to pull away in a 62-50 victory over Wagner on Sunday.
Curtis Stinson, Will Blalock and Jared Homan, Iowa State's top three scorers, combined for only four points in the opening half, but they asserted themselves in the second half to help the Cyclones (6-2) finally take control against their pesky opponent.
Homan scored all of his eight points in the second half, while Stinson and Blalock finished with seven apiece. Blalock added six assists and Stinson had five. Rahshon Clark and Damion Staple each scored nine points for the Cyclones.
Sean Munson led Wagner (1-6) with 13 points and nine rebounds. The Seahawks are spending most of the week in Iowa, playing at Northern Iowa on Tuesday and at Drake on Thursday.
Iowa State, sluggish after coming out of finals week, didn't take the lead for good until late in the first half and was up just 33-30 five minutes into the second half. Stinson and Blalock then got the Cyclones going.
Stinson converted a three-point play on a drive and Blalock made a 3-pointer, sparking a 10-2 run stretched the lead to 43-32.
Wagner drew to 45-37 on James Ulrich's 3-pointer with 7:18 left, but Iowa State scored the next 10 points to finish off the Seahawks, who thwarted Iowa State's transition game by playing at a deliberate pace.
Neal provided most of Iowa State's offense in the first half by hitting all five of his 3-point shots. Expected to be the Cyclones' top outside threat this season, Neal had been just 4-for-19 from 3-point range coming in. He finished 5-for-6 Sunday.
