AMES, Iowa -- The No. 14 Iowa State gymnastics team secured its first win at the season-opening meet against No. 22 Missouri (194.925-193.050). The squad claimed first place on every event.
Head coach K.J. Kindler said, "I'm very happy with their performance tonight. The first meet is always difficult, it's always about getting the season started off on the right foot and we did that tonight."
ISU sophomore Janet Anson took first on vault with a 9.90, while teammates Laura-Kay Powell and Erin Dethloff tied for second (9.850). Cyclone redshirt freshman Jade Kvach and Tiger Alisha Robinson shared fourth.
ISU swept the uneven bar competition, led by junior Erin Dethloff in first place (9.80). Powell took second (9.750) and Kvach claimed third (9.725).
On balance beam, Powell and Missouri's Lauren Schwartzman tied for first place (9.825). Cyclones Anson and Ashley Alden shared third-place honors (9.80).
Anson notched another first-place finish with her floor exercise performance (9.825). Iowa State junior Kacey Oiness and MU's Robinson earned a 9.775 to share second place. Kvach grabbed fourth with a 9.750.
Anson also finished at the top of the all-around competitors (39.225). Tiger Ashley Khederian took second (38.575) and Kvach placed third (38.450). Dethloff claimed fourth with a 38.275.
