COLLEGE STATION, Texas - Sophomore Stephanie Kaphingst scored with 12 seconds remaining in regulation as Iowa State stunned No. 18 Texas A&M, 1-0 at the Aggie Soccer Complex on Friday. The win was ISU's first over a ranked team since a 2003 victory over Oklahoma State and its first road victory over a ranked team since Iowa State won at No. 25 Georgia, 2-0 on Sept. 15, 2000. ISU was 0-10-1 in 11 prior matches vs. the Aggies.
Freshman Elisa Berzins picked up the biggest assist of her career on the play as she drove the ball into the box off an A&M attempt to clear, finding Kaphingst who headed the ball into the upper-right corner of the goal over the outstretched arms of 6-foot 1-inch Katy Jo Spisak. Kaphigst out-jumped the closest A&M defenders to notch her third goal of the season and the biggest of her career.
"This is the biggest win in the history of our program, without a doubt," Iowa State head coach Rebecca Hornbacher said. "Our team never gave up, put forth an outstanding effort and we knew it would only take one goal to win the game. This is huge for our program and we believed from the moment the match started that we would win the game."
Sophomore goalkeeper Joanna Haig recorded a season-high 12 saves and recorded her fifth shutout of the season. The 12 saves were the most by an ISU goalkeeper since Haig recorded 14 in a 1-0 loss at Texas in 2004. Haig's five shutouts now tie her for second place in school history for shutouts in a season.

Through 13 games, the Cyclones, 8-3-3 (3-1-1 in the Big 12), are now off to the best start in school history.
