STILLWATER, Okla.- The No. 13 Oklahoma State Cowgirls scored a late goal in the second overtime to defeat the Iowa State Cyclones, 3-2, at the OSU Soccer Complex Friday night. Iowa State took a 2-0 lead into the final minutes of regulation, but two quick Cowgirl goals sent the game in to overtime. Iowa State's goals were scored by Brittanie Waddell and Stephanie Kaphingst.
The Cyclones took an early 1-0 lead at the 18:14 mark on a header by Waddell. The junior co-captain scored her fifth goal of the season off the free kick from Beth Passman.
In the second half, Iowa State's Kaphingst capitalized on another header goal off a corner kick by senior Jess Villhauer, putting the Cyclones out to a 2-0 lead. Kaphingst had two shots in the match.
Late in the game, OSU came back scoring two goals with less than seven minutes remaining. Katie Lacey scored off a free kick from Niccole Grimaldi in the 83rd minute. Not even four minutes later, Grimaldi sent a corner kick that found Lacey again for a second OSU goal, to even the score at two. The pair of goals to send the game into overtime were Lacey's first of the season. OSU outshot the Cyclones 25-12 in the match.
ISU took two shots in the first overtime, but could not finish the game. OSU controlled much of the second overtime, outshooting ISU 3-0. With less than four minutes left in the match second overtime period, OSU's Adriane Radtke found a rebound in front of the Cyclone net and scored the game-winning goal.
With the loss, Iowa State fell to 6-8-0 overall and 2-2 in the Big 12. OSU, in its best conference start in school history, improves to 10-2-1, and 5-1 in the Big 12. This is the first time that OSU has won five Big 12 games in a season. Previously, their best conference mark was in 2004 when they finished 4-5-1.
Iowa State has seen two overtime matches this season, posting a 1-2 record. Two of the three contests were double-overtime matches in Big 12 conference action. Before falling to OSU on Friday, Iowa State beat Nebraska on Sept. 24, 3-2, at the ISU Soccer Complex.
ISU goalkeeper Ann Gleason had five saves and OSU goalkeeper had four saves in the match.
