AMES, Iowa - Tina Boutelle and Megan Willis hit home runs to lead No. 1 Texas past Iowa State, 3-1, in Big 12 conference action before a full capacity crowd of 610 at Southwest Athletic Complex.
Boutelle got Texas (37-3, 4-0 Big 12) on the board in the first inning with a leadoff homer to left field off of Iowa State pitcher Alyssa Ransom.
The homer, Boutelle's ninth of the season, stake the Longhorns to a short-lived 1-0 lead as ISU (15-14, 1-2 Big 12) bounced back with a run in the bottom half of the first. Fallon Johnson ripped the first pitch delivered by Longhorn pitcher Meagan Denny to right center.
Johnson then moved to third on a passed ball before scoring after getting caught in a run down. With one out, Johnson got hung up between third and home but Texas' catcher Megan Willis hit Johnson with the ball, allowing Johnson to score and knot the game at 1-1.
Denny and Ransom avoided any more trouble until the sixth inning when Desiree Williams singled to lead off the Longhorns' half of the inning and scored on Willis' third homer of the season.
Denny (15-2), who struck out 12, retired the Cyclones in order in the sixth and seventh innings to pick up the win, Texas' ninth straight. Denny allowed just the leadoff single to Johnson.
Ransom (6-8) pitched well for Iowa State despite getting the loss. Ransom held Texas to three runs on nine hits.
Johnson extended her career-best hitting streak to nine games with her first inning double.
