Hill to Compete in U19 Nationals

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. - Iowa State forward Leslie Hill, a member of the Sting Royal '87 out of North Texas, will compete in the U19 National Championship Series at the James W. Cownie Soccer Park in Des Moines, Iowa, beginning on July 26.

The Sting Royal '87 earned its trip to Des Moines after winning the 2006 US Youth Soccer Southern Regionals held June 29-July 5 in Little Rock, Ark., with a 1-0 victory over North Carolina CASL Spartan Elite. The Plano, Texas, native contributed one goal and five assists at Regionals.

Hill, who will be a sophomore this fall at ISU was named Big 12 Newcomer of the Week after scoring two goals vs. Texas Tech on Sept. 23.

The 2006 US Youth Soccer National Championship Series is the country's most prestigious national youth soccer tournament, providing approximately 185,000 players on more than 10,000 teams from US Youth Soccer's 55 State Associations the opportunity to showcase their soccer skills against the best competition in the nation while emphasizing teamwork, discipline and fair play.

Cyclone fans will have three opportunities to watch Hill and Sting Royal '87 play in Des Moines, beginning on July 26 at 8:30 a.m. on Field 3 in round-robin play. Hill will play again on July 27 at 10:30 a.m. on Field 1 and again on July 28 at 10:30 on Field 9. The top two of four teams in the session will advance to the U19 Girls National Championships. The Championships will take place at 12:45 p.m. on July 30 on Field 8.
