Cyclones Shutout Chicago State In Opener

IOWA CITY, Iowa ? Iowa State recorded 16 service aces and hit .437 to sweep Chicago State, 3-0 (30-11, 30-11, 30-13), in its season opener at the Hawkeye Challenge.

The Cyclones (1-0) came out firing on all cylinders as Erin Boeve opened the match with a kill and ISU stormed out to a 17-3 lead. Amy Vos had a pair of aces to give the Cyclones, who hit .333 for the game, a 30-11 game one win.

Vos finished the game with four service aces while Boeve chipped in five kills on six attempts.

Iowa State increased its hitting percentage to .579 in winning game two 30-11. Lauren Cummings, Victoria Henson and Diane Kieger came off the bench to add two kills each.

Game three was all Cyclones once again as ISU cruised to a 30-13 win to earn the sweep.

Boeve led the Cyclones, who held Chicago State to a -.173 hitting percentage for the match, with nine kills on 14 attempts. Nicole Lorenzen had seven kills and eight digs in the match. Laura Cady had five aces and Amy Vos chipped in four of the team's 16.

Jessica Khouri and Jennifer Van Kempen had four kills each to lead the Cougars (0-1).

The Cyclones will face a pair of intrastate rivals on Saturday as they play Drake at noon followed by a Hy-Vee Cy-Hawk Series match against Iowa at 7 p.m.
