IOWA CITY, Iowa ? Iowa State used 10 kills from Erin Boeve and Nicole Lorenzen to defeat Drake, 3-0 (30-11, 30-22, 30-16), at the Hawkeye Challenge. Lorenzen also tied a career-high with five of the Cyclones' nine service aces.
The Cyclones (2-0) jumped all over the Bulldogs, hitting .583 in the first game and getting five service aces from Lorenzen en route to a 30-11 win. Boeve was dominant at the net, getting five kills on as many attempts and adding a solo block as ISU held Drake to a -.029 hitting percentage in the game.
The Bulldogs took an early lead in the second game but were unable to fend off the vaunted Cyclone attack as ISU battled back to lead by as many as nine. Drake closed the gap to 25-20 but the Cyclones were able to overcome a .029 hitting percentage to pick up the 30-22 win.
Game three was much of the same as the Cyclones grabbed an early lead and never looked back, coasting to a 30-16 win and remaining undefeated on the season.
Following Boeve and Lorenzen was Katie Jessen with seven kills. Senior libero Katie Churm had 15 digs and Laura Cady chipped in 11. Freshman setter Kaylee Manns led the offensive attack with 32 assists.
Drake hit -.029 in the match, marking the second straight match the Cyclones have held their opponent to a negative hitting percentage. ISU also out blocked the Bulldogs, seven to six.
The Cyclones will battle intrastate rival
