AMES, Iowa- Iowa State freshman forward Lauren Odino was named Big 12 Newcomer of the Week by the Big 12 Conference on Tuesday. The honor comes after she scored a goal and added the game-winning assist in the Cyclones' two wins last week.
Against North Dakota State, she posted her second career goal and helped lead ISU to a 2-0 victory. ISU also came from behind to defeat Nebraska in the Cyclones' Big 12 opener. Trailing 2-1 with 52 seconds remaining, Odino went after a pass looking for the game-tying goal when she was fouled. After a penalty kick sent the game into overtime, she assisted the game-winning tally at the 109:39 mark.
This is the first time Iowa State has received the honor since Leslie Hill was named Newcomer of the Week on Sept. 27, 2005.
Currently, Odino is second on the team in goals (two) and points (five).
The Cyclones (5-6-0, 1-0-0 Big 12) travel to Baylor on Friday for a 7 p.m. match.
