AMES, Iowa - For the first time since 1998 the Iowa State men's cross country team has made its way into the nation's top 30 poll. According to the first USTFCCCA (United State Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association) poll of the season, the Cyclones are ranked 21st nationally. The team's next major competition for will be the NCAA Pre-Meet Oct. 14 in Terre Haute, Ind.
Leading the Cyclone squad this season is sophomore Kiel Uhl, who has been a top 15 finisher in every meet since the beginning of his Iowa State career. The Des Moines native was crowned the USA Junior National Cross Country champion in his freshman season and went on to lead the U.S. team in the World Cross Country Championships last season in Japan.
Along with Uhl, senior David Rotich and freshman Guor Majak have been a big part of the Cyclones' team success. Rotich, a track and field all-American, finished in second place at the Bulldog Classic and Majak has finished in the top 25 at the first three meets this season.
