The Cyclones improve to 10-4 overall and 2-2 in Big 12 play while
Joining Boeve in double-figures were Lauren Cummings (18 kills), Katie Jessen (14 kills) and Nicole Lorenzen (11 kills). Freshman Kaylee Manns had 65 assists and 21 digs to lead the Cyclones. Katie Churm also chipped in 17 digs in the win.
The Cyclones fell behind 2-1 in the match and 19-12 in the fourth game before turning to Boeve and Jessen when they needed big kills. It was the second time ISU has came from behind to win in five games this season, the other being at
“I just thought that the girls stayed really aggressive and started playing good defense,” said Johnson. “The defense helped us get some momentum going and we executed better down the stretch.”
Cummings paced ISU in game one, ripping two kills to stake the Cyclones to a 7-5 lead out of the gate. The Cyclones had an answer for every K-State rally, allowing the Wildcats to within one 10 times before five straight points gave the Cyclones some breathing room. The Cyclones won the game, 30-19, with Cummings getting six kills on six attempts and Boeve chipping in four kills, a solo block and three block assists.
The Cyclones and Wildcats battled back-and-forth with ISU taking a 16-15 lead in game two. The Wildcats responded to go on top for good at 20-19. K-State had the attack working in the second game, out hitting
After the Cyclones evened the score at 7-7 in game three, K-State rattled off four straight to go on top 11-7 and force an ISU timeout. The Wildcats were able to push their lead back to four at 23-19 before ISU scored two straight to close the gap to two. The Cyclones were finally able to tie it at 25-25 on a block by Boeve and Cummings. Following the Wildcat timeout, Cummings drilled home a kill to put ISU on top briefly before the Wildcats scored three straight to go up 28-26. The Cyclones were able to fight off two game points but K-State won a long rally and used an attack error from ISU to win the game 31-29 and go up 2-1 in the match.
K-State opened up a 19-12 lead in the fourth game before the Cyclones came alive.
The Cyclones were finally able to overcome the Wildcats at 26-25 after trailing the entire fourth game.
ISU came out firing in the decisive fifth game as Jessen ripped off a pair of kills and Boeve stuffed back a Wildcat attack to give ISU a 3-1 lead. The team's traded points until ISU took a 10-9 lead and forced a K-State timeout. After the Wildcats tied it back up at 10-10, ISU used a Boeve kill and a block by Boeve and Cummings to force K-State to use its final timeout trailing 12-10. The Cyclones went on to take the game 15-11 and win the match 3-2.
